James Merlino, Deputy Premier of Victoria and Minister for Education, launched Pembroke Primary School - Mooroolbark Vic's 'Imagine This Place' today - a joyous bilingual book in Hakha Chin and English, written and illustrated by a group of 35 students and their parents and grandparents.

 

2016 Cultural Diversity Week was the perfect time to 'Imagine this Place' as somewhere that people from many different cultures and ages can come together to share stories and experiences and learn from each other.

 

The project received support from the Shire of Yarra Best Start program and Mayor Jason Callanan was there to help with the honours. Best Start's Wendy Blakis said "it was so obvious from the response the children gave when the Kids' Own team arrived today how much they enjoyed the process of publishing their book with you - they were so excited and so rightly proud of themselves!".

 

Congratulations to all the authors for creating this beautiful and important bilingual resource and to the vision of past principal Carolyn Elliot.
