STEM

Each week, students complete a lesson in our STEM room. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Students engage in a range of hands on and innovative learning experiences including science experiments, gardening, design and construction and the digital technologies.

Integrated Studies

Students explore a range of subject areas including History, Geography, Science and their Interpersonal, Social, Ethical, Critical and Creative Thinking capabilities through integrated units of work. These areas of learning are based on the Victorian Curriculum and organised using the MAPPEN approach. 

Physical Education

Each week, students complete a Physical Education lesson. During these lessons, students develop a range of gross motor skills and fitness through games and activities. Students have the opportunity to participate in whole school events such as cross country, athletics and swimming. Students in years 5 and 6 also participate in interschool and representative sports.

Our Curriculum

At Pembroke Primary School, we offer a broad range of opportunities to engage and interest our learners. Learning is based on the Victorian Curriculum.
English

Students focus on Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening skills through our English program. We explicitly teach spelling each week based on "Words our Way'. Our writing approach includes VOICES, Writer's Workshop and Writer's Notebook. Students also borrow books each week from our school library.

AUSLAN

AUSLAN is the basis of our school's language program. AUSLAN is Australian Sign Language. Students learn how to sign through engaging activities and songs in a one hour lesson each week. 

Mathematics

Students focus on developing Mental Mathematics, concept knowledge and problem solving skills each week. We use differentiated learning groups to target and develop each learner. Our Mathematics approach is supported by a range of hands on and engaging learning activities.

Library

Our school has a library in our new building which offers a wide range of books for all ages. Students can borrow each week. Our collection includes many books that are part of the Victorian Premier's Reading Challenge. Our library is open each lunch time for students who like to read quietly or play board games.

The Arts

Each week, students complete a 1 hour lesson of Visual or Performing Arts. We have a dedicated Art Room where students can use a range of materials and tools to explore and express their creativity. Each year, we put on a school concert or production to showcase our student's talents.

Additional Programs

We offer a range of additional and extra curricular programs to enrich learning at Pembroke Primary School. This includes a camping program for years 3-6, swimming for Prep-Year 6, choir, school production, book swap and a chaplaincy program.
